THE MERCY FOR SERIESThe Mercy For series is an amazing set of books that covers many of the life-controlling issues individuals are facing today such as eating disorders, self-harm, addictions, and sexual abuse. These books are written to bring freedom to all who are struggling with these issues. These books are also designed for family members, friends, youth leaders, senior pastors – anyone who cares about someone who is struggling with these issues or who desires to help.
Our Intake Department receives over 1,500 calls each month from young women facing these issues. We know there are many more young women out there who are seeking freedom. Mercy Ministries hopes the information provided on this site will help you identify whether you or someone you know is struggling. We pray that these resources will provide hope and practical help through the principles in God’s Word – the same principles that have helped young women at Mercy Ministries find lasting freedom from these issues since 1983.
General Statistics:
- For females between the ages of 15 – 24 years old, the mortality rate associated with anorexia nervosa is 12 times higher than the death rate of ALL other causes of death.
- The number of girls seeking help from self-harm has doubled in the past year.
- About 50% of self-injurers have a history of sexual or physical abuse.
- About 72% of alcoholic women under the age of 30 also have eating disorders.
- More than half of all rapes of women (54%) occur before age 18; 22% of these rapes occur before age 12.
